Eco warriors fight for the plan

The Royal Blind School Eco Committee is for the whole school.

The Royal Blind School eco committee is for the whole school. It was set up in August 2006.

Teaching staff, education staff, care staff and pupils can all attend and one parent representative.

We usually meet up twice a term to discuss our progress and what we still need to achieve.

This committee has recently achieved their bronze award. We are now working towards our silver award which requires us to do 25 different things to achieve this.

In November, two of our pupil members, along with one member of teaching staff went to the Eco School conference in Edinburgh where they met many other eco schools and came back with lots of ideas.

One of our pupils has recently written to Robin Harper who is the leader of the Scottish Green Party asking him if he would be kind enough to come and visit the school to talk to us about how to be a more environmentally friendly school.

At the moment we are recycling plastic, paper and cardboard and in the future we are hoping to recycle glass, cans and compost waste. We are also hoping to have paper recycling bags in every room throughout the school.

We are also going to be making signs to put next to every light switch to remind people to switch them off when they are not needed.

We now have an eco schools notice board to inform people when the next meeting is and it also shows you the minutes from previous meetings.

The eco school project has helped the whole school to work together to help to save the environment.
