Royal Blind School Swimming Star

Lyndsey is a 15 year old girl and she has been swimming for 7 years.
She has been at the Royal Blind School in Edinburgh since October 2007. Lyndsey trains 5 or 6 days a week in the pool for 1 hour and also goes to the gym twice a week for 1 hour. As well as this she does athletics training with the school for 1 hour a week. Her eye condition affects both of her retinas so that she has reduced outer vision; this makes it hard for her to see other competitors in the pool.
On the 1st of March Lyndsey was at a swimming competition in Sheffield called the Nationwide National Junior swimming championships and won nine golds medals and one silver medal. She has also been a five times gold medallist at the British Disability Championships. In 2007 she was the Scottish Junior Disability swimmer of the year.

Lyndsey is now currently training for the Paralympics trials in April. However her main ambitions are to get into the GB swimming squad and to get to the London 2012 Paralympics. As well as this she hopes to make: the European Championships, International Paralympics Committee (IPC) World Cup and IPC World Championships and the Commonwealth games. Lyndsey’s hard work and commitment shows that disabilities can be overcome and that you should always think positively.
