RNIB calls young people to make change

One of the fun days out organised by the group was held at Edinburgh International Climbing Arena, Ratho. On offer was climbing, aerial assault and abseiling.

The RNIB forum was set up in June 2007. This is a group for blind and partially sighted young people between the ages of 12 – 25. It is chaired by Grant Marshall and organised by Mo Colvin.

The aim of this forum is for young people with a visual impairment to have their say and make some changes to Scotland. There is also a social aspect to the meetings.

Since the forum began, they have organised several fun-days in each of the different areas which are North, East, and West of Scotland. For the East area they organised an event at Ratho Climbing Centre, for the North area they organised an event for Aberdeen which was bowling and for the West area they organised an event in Glasgow which was a trip to the Xscape Adventure Centre.

The forum has also been to the Scottish Parliament to take part in a cross party group and to tell the MSPs what improvements they want to see for visually impaired young people in ScotlandThe forum has also been to the Scottish Parliament to take part in a cross party group and to tell the MSPs what improvements they want to see for visually impaired young people in Scotland. This meeting was with the Liberal Democrats.

The steering group makes major decisions and they also discuss any issues that have come up at the regional meetings. The next steering group meeting is on the 29th of March.
