The Royal Blind School campuses merged this autumn. This issue features photos capturing the final days at Craigmillar and looking at some of the new facilities at the re-developed school in Morningside. We also pay tribute to the retiring Depute Head Teacher, Sally Mair. In addition, we explore activities which took place for National Braille Week, an MP's visit to Braeside House, and one young person's experience of short breaks at Forward Vision.
Five Royal Blind School pupils recently enjoyed a trip on the long awaited Edinburgh tram network as part of 'Exercise Salvador'. The pupils joined hundreds of volunteers to assess how the system coped with large crowds and met the needs of visually impaired people. Kezia Dugdale, MSP for Edinburgh South and Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, launched Kidscene's new premises and Rachel roger describes her fundraising initiative to support Grandson Nathan, who attends the Royal Blind School, after losing his vision as a result of serious illness.
Libby Clegg describes how experiences as a Royal Blind School pupil have helped her deal with the demands of being a professional athlete and her delight at becoming a Royal Blind Ambassador. We have visited Forward Vision's music group who use specially adapted musical instruments to express themselves creatively whilst the Elderflowers, from the charity Hearts and Minds, have been visiting residents at Braeside House using a combination of music, comedy and puppetry to reach the person behind degenerative illnesses such as dementia.Download
