Frequently Asked Questions
- What training and qualifications do the staff have?
All care staff have the minimum of an HNC in Social Care with SVQ 3 (or equivalent); Senior Managers and Managers have a Social Work qualification. All staff and managers are registered as being fit to practice and suitably qualified for the posts they hold by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) or other relevant professional body.
- What about safety and adult protection?
All care staff and managers are subject to Disclosure Checks at the Enhanced Disclosure level. Disclosure checks for staff are repeated every three years and every time staff change their role/job. All staff are trained in Protection of Vulnerable Groups.
- What does your service offer?
We provide individualised packages of care and support with person centered support plans. Our support focuses on strengths and abilities to encourage greater independence. We offer development of life and living skills, personal and social development and ongoing formal and informal learning opportunities.
- What about travel?
Young adults are encouraged to use public transport where possible. Forward Vision has an adapted people carrier which can accommodate a wheelchair and is suitable for young adults who may have mobility support issues.
- What activities can I take part in?
Young adults are supported to access community facilities and activities including, swimming, cinema and theatre trips, holidays, art and dance classes, hydrotherapy, dining out, library, coffee shops and cafes among others.
- Do I have to get up or go to bed at a certain time?
No! You choose your own routine and staff will be flexible to accommodate your needs.
- Can I visit and go out with family and friends?
Yes as long as staff are aware for fire safety purposes and as long as staff know that you are with a ‘safe’ person who you/your family have approved.
- What do I do if I have a complaint?
We have a Complaints Procedure in place. Staff will be happy to discuss this with you.
- Can pets and children visit?
Pets and children are welcome but we request that they are supervised during the visit and pose no risk to other residents. Forward Vision cannot accept responsibility for any accidents/incidents that occur within the unit.
- What if I need help with personal care?
Forward Vision provides 24 hour care and staff are always available to assist you with your personal care requirements. We encourage young adults to be as independent as possible and we respect the choices they make.
- If I am uncomfortable about being supported by a carer of the opposite sex, can this be accommodated?
We will try to accommodate this wherever possible but this cannot be guaranteed. All of our staff approach care in a sensitive and respectful manner.
- Will I be able to maintain my religious beliefs and customs?
Yes, our staff will support you to maintain your religious beliefs and customs.
- Can I have visitors?
Visitors are welcome at any time; we respectfully ask that visitors let us know of planned visits in advance.
- Will my dietary preferences be catered for?
Young adults are involved in menu planning and shopping for food and we encourage and full participation in meal choices.
- Do I need to have my electrical equipment tested?
Yes – we will test all electrical equipment once you come to Forward Vision and annually thereafter.
- What about my personal belongings (insurance)?
We recommend that you have personal insurance in place for any items of value that you bring with you. Forward Vision cannot accept any responsibility for loss or damage to personal property.
- What will happen if I become unwell?
At Forward Vision we are keen to comply with your wishes in relation to your health and in helping you to manage any medical conditions you may have. It is important that we are aware of your wishes and any wishes that you have asked your family to make on your behalf.
- Do you have a resuscitation policy?
Our staff are not qualified in Cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). In the event of any serious health concern, we would call on the emergency services.
