The first ever Scottish Royal Variety Performance
A host of celebrities and artists from the worlds of music, dance, comedy and theatre are coming together for a glittering inaugural event in the showbiz calendar, the Scottish Royal Variety Performance. Artists will be performing in the presence of His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester and His Grace The Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry.
This year the event is in aid of The Royal Blind School Appeal and will take place on Thursday 8 October 2009 at The Royal Concert Hall Glasgow, to coincide with World Sight Day. TV presenter Jenni Falconer and Scottish comedian Tam Cowan are set to host this exciting event that will follow a similar format to the Royal Variety Performance - a prestigious red carpet occasion that will be televised.
Richard Hellewell, chief executive of Royal Blind said: "We are really proud to be involved in establishing the very first Scottish Royal Variety Performance. Funds raised will go towards The Royal Blind School Appeal and a huge buzz of excitement about this inaugural event is starting to grow at Royal Blind. It's fantastic.
"The Royal Concert Hall is Scotland's premier music venue that plays host to many amazing events. Due to its magnificent status and location we believe the audience won't fail to be caught up in the magic of the occasion."
Tam Cowan said: "It's an honour to be part of such a star-studded evening like the Scottish Royal Variety Performance. Backstage I'll make sure I wear a namebadge so the other acts know who I am."
Jenni Falconer added: "Being invited to co-host Scotland's very own Scottish Royal Variety Performance is so exciting and a huge honour. I can't wait to join everyone at the Royal Concert Hall for this fantastic evening full of international talent right here in Glasgow, and for such a great cause as Royal Blind too."
Acts for this performance will be announced in the near future. For more information visit www.srvp.co.uk.
