Former school pupil and Paralympian medallist Libby Clegg officially launched Light up Lives - our new fundraising campaign - at Light Night, Edinburgh’s Christmas celebrations which are organised by Edinburgh Council.

The fundraising campaign focuses on the real people that we help on a daily basis and uses innovative light imagery to portray their words.  Speaking about the campaign Libby said:  ‘As a former pupil of the Royal Blind School, I know that the funds raised from this campaign will have a real impact on the lives of those who are blind and visually impaired. For me, attending the school was inspirational and winning a medal at the 2008 Paralympics was awesome. I am now very proud to be leading a campaign for Royal Blind that I know will help others to lead their life the way they want to. Together we are lighting up lives.’
The Light up Lives campaign will include marketing, direct mail initiatives and advertising that will be shown in cinemas, on TV, on billboards and on buses and bus shelters. Special reflective ink has been used in a range of campaign materials make the campaign stand out from the crowd and attract a generous response from the public.
The tone adopted for the campaign is positive, practical and empowering. ‘We are delighted that Libby is leading this campaign on our behalf. She is truly inspirational.’ says Richard Hellewell, Chief Executive Royal Blind. ‘We make a real and worthwhile difference to the blind and visually impaired people we help and this campaign will bring real focus to our work.’
The creative concept for the campaign has been developed by Silhouette and OpenGlasgow, with the TV and Cinema commercial created by Mallinson Television Productions. A main feature of the campaign is innovative light imagery that has been created by award winning animator John Butler. The imagery visually portrays the words that are spoken by the real people that the charity supports and these people have been captured on film by professional photographer Alex Telfer. In addition the voice over for the campaign is spoken by BAFTA award winning actress Daniela Nardini.  Some of Royal Blind’s own stars of the campaign include: Archie, Libby, Stefan and Saad.
The cinema commercial is scheduled to be shown with Madagascar 2 – Escape 2 Africa and many cinemas will be displaying and shaking collecting tins to support the fundraising efforts for this campaign.
