Introduction

The Royal Blind School is a National Centre of Excellence in the education and care of young people who are blind or visually impaired (VI), including those who have complex, multiple disabilities and visual impairment (MDVI). We employ highly skilled and motivated staff and are registered with Learning & Teaching Scotland to deliver accredited Continuing Professional Development.

Training Topics

As a provider of CPD, we provide training in a range of topics related to visual impairment including:

VI awareness

Emotional literacy

Transcription

Braille

Environmental factors

Living skills

Functional visual assessment

MDVI

We are happy to work in partnership with other training providers and welcome enquiries from people interested in learning more about visual impairment.

Bespoke Training

If you can't see the training course for you in our programme, ask us about our range of tailor-made options. We take the time to listen to what you want to achieve and then put together a programme to meet your requirements.

  • Is there a subject you would like us to cover?
  • What development support do you need?
  • Can we support your next CPD / In service day?
  • What about a course at a venue local to you?

Benefit from the experience and expertise of a Specialist School and Accredited Training Provider, recognised as a National Centre of Excellence and who has worked with children and young adults with a visual impairment for more than 200 years.

Our small group sessions lend themselves to a more relaxed atmosphere allowing you to ask plenty of questions and have great discussions. A highly experienced course leader will tailor the day to meet your needs perfectly.

 Training in-house

There are many advantages to holding training sessions within your own place of work including:

• Tailored training to meet your needs

• Holding the training when you want it

• Giving all staff access to the same training

• Training as many staff as you can at one set price

• Minimising disruption to teaching and learning or work practice

• Avoiding unnecessary costs for staff cover and travel

• Sharing the cost by holding a joint session with partner organisations
