How your money helps
Royal Blind is a charity for the blind that provides services that help and support the blind. Each year with the help and generous support of the public and corporate businesses, we are able to raise funds that then go a long way to help and support the blind children and adults of the UK.

£10 Buys an adapted dinner plate
Dining and eating can be stressful, embarrassing and frustrating for people who cannot see the food. The use of a dinner plate with a high side is really useful so that pieces of food don’t slip off the sides. Try hosting a fundraising sensory dining evening with friends and colleagues to get a bit of a taste of what it is like to be visually impaired.
£29 Buys one ultra-light cane to help blind people’s mobility.
With a donation of £29 we will be able to buy an ultra-light cane with vibrating buttons in the handle, which can sense objects. As a seeing person, you take it for granted to stride forward knowing what lies ahead. One of these helps support the blind and allows a blind child and adult to step forward with confidence.
£32 Buys a talking clock
A talking clock for the blind will announce the time and date in a clear voice and has multiple alarm settings to help schedule a busy day. Having a clock on isn’t just convenient if you can’t see it. That’s why so many people with low vision need talking clocks.

£47 Buys one set of talking kitchen scales
Talking kitchen scales are ideal for those with vision impairments. Children at The Royal Blind School are taught to cook and these talking scales are necessary to help measure specific quantities of food. When the weight is registered, it is read aloud by a mechanical voice. In most case scales also include a large visual display of the weight.

£225 Buys a talking microwave
A talking microwave supports independent living for a blind person. Adapted knobs allow the user to set the cooking time and at the push of a button the applicance will ask for a time to be set. The microwave will also give spoken requests to stir or turn food during cooking and to leave food to stand. There is spoken advise when the door is open or closed and once the microwave has finished it will inform the chef that cooking is complete.
