Bridgend Allotment

Our school children are eager to start an organic allotment at Bridgend. The allotment will be part of the Bridgend Community Health Allotment which is based in Craigmillar Country Park.

It is part of the new Edinburgh City Council’s allotment site at Bridgend Farm on the Old Dalkeith Road. The plots are the first wholly organic allotments in Edinburgh and the children need to raise £10,000 to allow access to 2 adjoining allotments that will be converted to allow wheelchair access to raised flowerbeds, shed/
greenhouse and all aspects of the site.

Once the allotment is up and running the children will learn how:

• to produce fruit and vegetables from scratch,
• to work with others,
• to increase their confidence and skills,
• much fun gardening can be,
• gardens can fit with the environment and
• gardening makes you healthy.
