Braeside House wins prestigious care award

Braeside House wins prestigious Care Award. Marilyn McCann is pictured receiving the award

Marilyn McCann and her team from Braeside House, were again honoured at the prestigious Scottish Care Awards Gala in November.  The care home won the Care Sector Innovation of the Year Award and was also runner up in two other categories.

Braeside House, which celebrated its 8th birthday on 22 November 2007 is a purpose built care home for older people who are blind or visually impaired.  The Scottish Care Awards Gala and Ceilidh is a unique opportunity to celebrate the effort and achievement of staff in Care Homes across Scotland.  Television presenter Kay Adams hosted the third national awards ceremony and as you can see from the pictures the staff at Braeside House had a fabulous evening.

Care Awards Personality Finalists

Marilyn McCann, Matron of Braeside House accepted the awards on behalf of the home.  Marilyn said:  ‘This is the second year that we have won an award at this prestigious event and we’re delighted to be runner up in a further two categories.  We really work hard to provide a quality service for our residents and it has been exciting to develop a teaching package that shares our knowledge with others.  To win an award for this development is just fantastic.’

The awards follow closely on the heels of a first class inspection report by the Care Commission Office that was provided in September.

Comments by service users of Braeside House that were included in the inspection report include:

‘It’s terrific here.’
‘Everybody is very nice, couldn’t be in a better place.  We have bowls, quizzes and entertainment like the tartan lads.’
‘I don’t like tea or coffee, so I have apple juice or cranberry juice.’
‘I love my home.  I’m very well looked after.  I couldn’t be any better looked after.  I go to all the activities on offer.  We have a wonderful library here.  I wouldn’t change a thing.’
