Pamela runner-up at Third Sector Excellence Awards 2007

Pamela is nominated for national excellence award

A Royal Blind School pupil, Pamela McInnes (17), was runner-up for Volunteer of the Year at the prestigious Third Sector Excellence Gala Awards.  Pamela was nominated by her manager Jane at Sense Scotland.

‘When I was about 14 I was a service user of Sense Scotland and had a befriender,’ said Pamela.  ‘This made a huge difference to my life at this time as I gained in confidence through having a friend. So during 2006-2007 I decided to volunteer for relief work at Sense Scotland to help others with very complex needs. I really enjoyed volunteering as it gave me confidence and the chance to meet new people.  Now through volunteering I have paid work in my free time and have met a whole new circle of friends.  To be nominated for the award was really exciting and I had a wonderful time down in London.  Although I didn’t win I was really honoured to be a runner-up at the national award ceremony.’

The Third Sector Excellence Awards is a national awards scheme that celebrates the achievements of charities and voluntary organisations across the UK.  The Volunteer of the Year section is targeted towards volunteers who have shown the greatest commitment and achievement, taking into consideration what has been exceptional about their contribution and what benefits have been derived from their experience.

Now in her final year at The Royal Blind School, Pamela hopes to pass her exams and then leave to go to University to study as an Occupational Therapist.

Well done on your nomination Pamela and best of luck with your exams!
