Jackie celebrates his 100th birthday at Braeside House

Edinburgh bike racer Jackie McCredie recently celebrated his 100th birthday

Edinburgh bike racer Jackie McCredie celebrated his 100th birthday in March.  Jackie was born on 17 March 1908 and he is now the oldest living TT rider and honorary member of the TT riders association.

He competed in the races on his Excelsior motorcycle – the only bike he would ever take to the TT throughout his career and one which is now kept in a museum in England alongside two of his TT trophies.

Jackie said: ‘I am the oldest living TT rider and have been invited to be an honorary member of the TT Riders Association, because of my long association with TT stretching back to the pre-war years and, interestingly, because they are also celebrating their centenary year."

Adrian Earnshaw, Isle of Man minister for tourism and leisure and head of the TT commented that Mr McCredie was a valued member of the TT family and added: ‘We are delighted to hear that he is doing so well.’

We featured Jackie’s story in the last edition of isite and on his birthday friends, family and The Lord Provost visited Jackie to wish him a very happy birthday.

Commenting on the occasion, Marilyn McCann, matron at Braeside House said: ‘Jackie is well liked in the home, a real gentleman and always looking out for others.  He has a lovely warm and caring nature, still plays the piano, loves to sing and likes to get up on the dance floor.  He is also a regular winner at carpet bowls in the home.  We had a great celebration for his 100 birthday.’
