A star line up is already in place for the inaugural Scottish Royal Variety Performance which is aid of The Royal Blind School Appeal and more acts are set to be announced in the coming week.

A host of celebrities and artists from the worlds of music, dance, comedy and theatre are coming together for a glittering event in the showbiz calendar, which is taking place on Thursday 8 October 2009 at The Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow.

The event is being hosted by glamourous TV presenter Jenni Falconer and Scottish comedian Tam Cowan and confirmed talent includes:

DOUGIE MACLEAN
Dougie MacLean is considered by many to be Scotland’s pre-eminent singer-songwriter and is certainly one of the country’s greatest musical treasures. From his home base in the beautiful Tay Valley, MacLean tours the world with his unique blend of lyrical, ‘roots based’ song writing and instrumental composition.

 


CRAIG ARMSTRONG
Glasgow born Craig Armstrong studied composition and piano at the Royal Academy of Music London. Since then, from his base in Glasgow, he has written award winning film scores, classical and theatrical compositions and recorded his own solo albums. He is now one of the most popular composers in the film and music industry.


SINGERS AND THE ORCHESTRA OF SCOTTISH OPERA
Scottish Opera is Scotland's national opera company and the largest performing arts organisation in Scotland. The Company tours to over 50 venues throughout Scotland each year, playing to over 95,000 audience members in venues from village halls and community centres to established theatres.


SOWETO GOSPEL CHOIR
Two-time Grammy winners Soweto Gospel Choir was formed to celebrate the unique and inspirational power of African Gospel music. With a repertoire of world, gospel and spiritual classics the Choir is dedicated to sharing the joy of faith through music with audiences around the world.


RED HOT CHILLI PIPERS
In 2004 the group appeared on the main stage at T in the Park with the headline band, rock group The Darkness. The band features Stuart Cassells, a twice world champion snare drummer and, with three of the band members being recent graduates from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, the musicianship is first class.


SANDI THOM
Sandi's debut album “Smile... It Confuses People” has sold over one million worldwide since its release, achieving Platinum status with the single on that album "I Wish I was a Punk Rocker". “For me it’s always about the music first,” says Sandi. “Writing the songs & then delivering them to people. Follow your heart & not what people tell you to do."


PERES BROTHERS
The brothers Ivan and Adans Lopez Peres represent the 5th generation of a famous Portuguese family of circus artistes. Today, their act is a modern presentation of partner equilibristic, in which the static and dynamic acrobatic exercises are combined with movements of modern dance.


FLYIN JALAPENOS
The Flyin Jalapenos b-boy crew started in 2002 when two b-boys in Glasgow met each other at the right time and got together to train hard in the art of b-boying. The crew has now expanded and has B-boys, B-girls, Poppers, Lockers and Rockers from all over Scotland and from Holland, Germany, Poland, Canada and Philipines.


ZIPPOS CIRCUS SILK PERFORMERS
Aerial silk is a modern circus art that has captured the imaginations of audiences worldwide and Zippos Circus has some of the best performers in the industry. They demonstrate the very best of spectacular aerial silks which allow fabrics to cross, billow, and flow across the stage, creating a picture of unmatchable elegance and beauty.


SCOTTISH RHYTHMIC GYMNASTS
Rhythmic gymnastics, performed at a competitive level is a dynamic and compelling sport for girls. The Scottish Rhythmic Gymnastics is one of the best in Britain, combining flexibility, agility, artistry and physical coordination with natural grace, musicality, creativity and rhythmic awareness to perform spectacular floor routines.


FRIGHTENED RABBIT
This band who hails from Selkirk are currently based in Glasgow and are one of the latest up and coming indie rock bands from Scotland who are making headlines in both the UK and the States. Last year they played at Austin's famous SCSW Music Festival. The past few years have largely been about the band quietly, commitedly honing their sound, and cultivating their art.
