Admissions
Also in this section:
All children entering the Royal Blind School must have a significant visual impairment (VI). The school accepts admissions from all over the UK and abroad. Within the UK the majority of children and young people attending the school do so having been referred by their local authority, on the basis of their assessed need.
We always seek to work in partnership with local authorities and parents to assess the school’s suitability for individual pupils. We build close working links with parents/carers and the ‘sending’ local authority, both before and after referral and admission.
Occasionally we are approached directly by parents interested in their child attending the school. In these circumstances, we will make sure that parents are given as much information as possible about what we offer. We try to ensure that informed and right decisions are made about the school’s suitability for each child or young person.
Visitors are welcome at all times. The school has a Parents’ Consultative Group and members of this group are happy to speak to interested parents about the school and the application process.
For information about the group, please contact the Principal’s PA by telephone 0131 662 8122 or email
