Royal Blind School pupil Anthony has been invited to play in an orchestra as part of the Cultural Olympics, which takes place on the 15 July this year. The concert takes place just a couple of weeks before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.

Anthony will be performing with Drake Music, a group who aim to break down the barriers in music and provide an inclusive opportunity for creativity.  Anthony uses adapted instruments, provided by Drake Music, which use sensor technology to translate body movement into sounds and images.

He is one of three wheelchair users in the group which enables participants to make music by providing training and education classes. Drake Music received funding to take part and is one of 20 orchestras that have been invited to perform a piece of music at the event. They will collaborate with young musicians from the City of Edinburgh Music School. The piece of music they will play is called Technophobia and is being written by Oliver Searle from Glasgow Conservatoire.

Antony’s mum Fran said; “It’s a wonderful opportunity for him so I’m delighted and he can’t wait”

Prior to their London performance, the group will showcase at a warm- up performance of Technophobia at the Queen’s Hall in June.
