Craigmillar Campus:
Residential Accommodation
There are six residential areas for pupils attending the school
at Craigmillar Park Campus. Four are accommodated in the
main school building and the remaining two are situated
within the school grounds. The aims of the residential
provision are to:
- deliver a high quality service which meets the individual's
needs identified through assessment and consultation with
the young people and their parents or carers.
- provide a stable environment through which individual
programmes of care can be delivered, including support of
families where appropriate.
- make available opportunities for pupils to develop a range of social and living skills by participating in clubs and a range of other leisure activities.
At all times, high priority is given to maintaining the privacy
and dignity of pupils.

Key Features
Care Planning: each residential pupil has an individualised
care plan to enable care staff to provide specific
programmes of care tailored to each individual child. Care
plans are reviewed and amended on a regular basis and
children together with their parents/carers are encouraged
to take an active part in the development of the plan.
Keyworking: each child has a named keyworker who is
responsible for providing individual support. One to one key-worker time is provided on a regular basis. The keyworker
will liaise with the child's parents/carers and the child's
social worker on a regular basis.
Close Links: care staff and other professionals maintain
close links through multi-disciplinary meetings, teacher
liaison, and pupil review/future needs meetings in order to
ensure that all aspects of a pupil's individual targets are
met and that care plans are regularly updated.
Annual Inspections: the school is registered with the
Care Commission which is responsible for conducting
inspections of residential provision. Inspections take place
at least twice a year, one unannounced and one notified.
Qualified Staff: all care staff are expected to by trained to
SVQ level 3 and have an HNC in care. Senior staff and the
head of care are expected to hold a Diploma or Degree in
Social Work or an equivalent qualification.
