Our dedicated and highly trained team are committed to providing you with an excellent transcription service, and we will work closely with you to ensure your requirements are met. We currently employ around 50 employees and the following outline profiles provide you with an indication of the depth of staff experience we have in our company

Our Staff

John Donaldson - General Manager

John joined the Scottish Braille Press in 2002 as Manager. His previous experience was in the commercial print sector starting in the early eighties with a small Scottish printer before going on to work for some of the UK’s largest printers in a variety of management roles. He graduated in 2001 with an MBA from the University of Edinburgh.

Sandra Wright - Deputy Manager

Sandra joined the Scottish Braille Press in 2010 as Deputy Manger. She has held a number of senior management positions in manufacturing and education, as well as successfully running her own business. With a strong commercial background Sandra's particular strengths are in customer services and marketing.

Alan Balfour - Head Braillist and Senior Editor

Alan studied at the Royal Blind School before leaving at the age of 18. He has been a Braille reader from the age of five. He joined the Scottish Braille Press in 1969 and held positions as a transcriber and a proof-reader before taking on the role of Head Braillist. Alan is also the Senior Editor at the Scottish Braille Press.

David Moodie - Braille Supervisor

A former pupil at the Royal Blind School, David joined the Scottish Braille Press in 1970 as a trainee Braille transcriber. Promoted to Braille Supervisor in 1982, David is responsible for proofing, editing and Braille training. David represented the Press on the Braille Authority of the United Kingdom (BAUK) for 18 years.

Janet Bartholomew - Senior Braille Proof-Reader

A former pupil of the Royal Blind School Janet worked for a number of years as an audio typist in both London and Edinburgh . She started with the Scottish Braille Press in 1991 as a transcriber before taking on the position of Braille proof-reader. Janet took on the role of Senior Braille proof-reader in 2003.

Gary Davidson - Production IT Manager

On leaving school in 1985 Gary began his career in IT working in the financial sector. He then progressed into a variety of managerial roles in the financial and printing industries before joining the Scottish Braille Press in 1997.
