Why we need you

Our charity relies on the generous donations from the trusts, companies and the general public worldwide and on the work of its many supporters to provide essential services for the education, care, training and employment of children and adults in the UK who are visually impaired.

Many of the services we provide are heavily subsidised by the charity so we always a need to generate unrestricted funds. In addition we are currently fundraising for:-

  • The Bridgend Project, Edinburgh.
The Bridgend Community Health Allotment is in Craigmillar Country Park.  It is part of the new Edinburgh City Council’s allotment site at Bridgend Farm on the Old Dalkeith Road.  The plots are the first wholly organic allotments in Edinburgh.  There is a need to raise £10,000 to allow children to have access to 2 adjoining allotments that will be converted to allow wheelchair access to raised flowerbeds, shed/greenhouse and all aspects of the site.  Children will learn how to produce fruit and vegetables from scratch, work with others, increase their confidence and skills, find out how much fun gardening can be, how gardens can fit with the environment and how gardening makes you healthy.
  • Outdoor activity events
The school would like foreign exchange trips for students and to take part in outdoor activity events at Badaguish, so that they learn from these experiences.  £10,000 is required for 2007/2008.
  • New mini bus
There is a need to raise £40,000 to fund a new mini bus for the school.  The bus needs to be especially adapted for the needs of the children.
  • Sensory roof top garden
Last year Braeside Home won two prestigious carer awards.  The average age of the 70 elderly blind ladies and gentlemen is now in excess of 90 years.  This year the home is seeking £20,000 to purchase special hoists for the home and £30,000 to start the development of a sensory roof garden for residents.

Your support is most welcome and gratefully received.
