Introducing our new Linburn Centre & Outreach Services

Scottish War Blinded provides assistance to people who have been members of the armed forces and now have a visual impairment. We have two criteria for membership. People who have been members of the armed forces and are now registered blind or partially sighted and people who receive a war pension (or AFCS) for visual impairment.

The new Linburn Centre, which is due to open in October, will be based in Wilkieston to the west of Edinburgh. It will be a centre of activity and socialisation for residents within travelling distance, as well as offering occasional short course use for members from further afield. It will offer services at no charge to its users.

The new purpose built centre will accommodate 35 members daily. There will be a wide range of leisure and social activities available including arts, crafts, daily living skills, IT, gym and relaxation in addition to training opportunities for members.

For those within travelling distance, transport will be provided to and from the Centre free of charge, in addition to a hot meal.

As part of our new development, Scottish War Blinded will also be offering an Outreach service, initially in Edinburgh, the Lothians & Borders and in Grampian as a pilot project before expanding to cover the whole of Scotland. Outreach workers will provide support to our members and also be a one-stop contact point for dealing with statutory and voluntary agencies, and offering assistance with benefits and daily living skills.
Any veteran, resident in Scotland who has service in the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom, including National Service and Territorial Army is eligible to join us and use our services. This also applies to members of the merchant Navy and Nursing Services who have been in active service and veterans of Scottish Regiments wherever they live now.
