Closures

The Royal Blind School, Kidscene and our Scottish War Blinded centres remain closed for the rest of this week. Royal Blind's head office is also closed and staff are working from home. 

The Scottish War Blinded Linburn Centre will also be closed on Monday 5 March.

Royal Blind (Stand H86) will exhibit at the Independent Living Scotland event on Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 October 2015.

Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the services Royal Blind provides to support blind and partially sighted people of all ages across the UK in terms of education, care and employment including the Royal Blind School, Kidscene After-School and Holiday Club, Braeside House, Scottish Braille Press and Forward Vision.

The move to Unified English Braille

Standard English Braille alphabet card

Braille still has an important role to play in the mix of accessible formats, but the code is evolving for the 21st century. Several distinct Braille codes, such as maths, computing and literary versions, are being brought together into one single set of rules – Unified English Braille (UEB).  This has been adopted as the official Braille code in major English-speaking countries.
