Back to School with Kidscene

The Royal Blind School campus at Canaan Lane has begun a re-development programme that will enable all pupils at the Royal Blind School to be cared for and educated there by Summer 2014.

As part of the re-development, our after school and holiday club, Kidscene, has moved to newly refurbished premises at the Canaan Lane campus. The new premises are already a big hit in this new term.

The new Kidscene has two spacious and airy bright new rooms painted in primary colours, as well as a kitchen for making snacks. There is also a chill out area, a sensory zone, a role play area and space for playing with lego, bricks and dolls. A corner for older children has an Xbox 360 Connect and board games.

Kidscene Manager Lisa told us said, “The children are really enjoying having lots of extra space to play and loving their new club. We are spending lots of time getting to know our new friends who have started at the club.”

With Lisa’s help, some of the children are currently putting together an outline to start a new Kidscene Pupil Council, which will start running after the October holidays.

Last week was art week, where the children discovered lots of different ways we can make art. Take a look at what they created on the Kidscene Facebook page.

This week is book week, and the children are currently making their own story books. They will also be celebrating Roald Dahl’s birthday with giant peach craft (based on the wonderful James and the Giant Peach), and taking part storytelling sessions.

Everyone at Kidscene is also looking forward to more great themes in the run up to the October holidays including:

·         Harvest

·         All About Me

·         My Body

·         Grandparent appreciation week

·         Eid

Kidscene will be open for the October holidays from Monday 14th of October to Monday 21st of October. The theme for the holidays will be autumn and we’re planning swimming and soft play sessions, arts and crafts, cooking, and lots more.
