Service Spotlight: Kidscene

Posted: 29/08/2013 | Child Care

Founded in 1793, Royal Blind is a national charity providing education, care and employment for blind and visually impaired people throughout their lifetime.

We provide education and care for children with services like the Royal Blind School and after school care through Kidscene.

Kidscene offers after school and holiday care for children of all abilities based at the Royal Blind School in Morningside, Edinburgh.

Kidscene supports children with visual impairments as a fully integrated service, welcoming children who attend both local mainstream schools and other special schools. We also use a reverse integration model, unique in the UK, showing that there are no barriers to friendships.

Numbers are increasing gradually and the holiday club proved to be popular and brought in some new children. Kidscene has 30 places available we aim to have a mixture of children with and without disabilities attending our after school and holiday club at all times.

Our excellent facilities include a hydro-therapy pool, soft play area, sensory garden, and enclosed outdoor play areas. The Kidscene premises have also been recently refurbished for the start of the Autumn 2013 term. Our rooms are divided into various play areas for different ages and activities, and include a chill-out zone, role play, lego, dolls, and board games.

Kidscene works with skilled and qualified staff, alongside occasional volunteers.
