Making the transition from school - information event

Posted: 28/01/2015 | Education

The move from school to adult life is a big change for anyone, but young people with additional support needs can face even greater challenges.

To prepare and inform parents and carers for their own child's post-school transition, the Royal Blind School is hosting an information event on Tuesday February 10.

We will also hear from people who have already been through the transition process.

Some elements of the event will have an emphasis on visual impairment, but there will also be information about guardianship, Self-directed Support, Personal Independence Payments and other relevant topics.

School Liaison Officer Jonathan Cleland said:-

"This event is important because it offers a chance to connect parents and carers with experts in many different aspects of post-school transition. It also provides an excellent opportunity for parents and carers to meet and share their own experiences and advice amongst each other.

Having this event here at the Royal Blind School allows us to further increase our understanding of the family’s perspective and learn how we can continue to offer appropriate support."

Post School Transition takes place on Tuesday February 10, from 10am to 3.50pm at the Royal Blind School.
