A former Royal Blind School pupil has received the illustrious honour of being named an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE).

Margaret Cowie OBE was awarded for her longstanding involvement with various charitable services for blind and visually-impaired individuals, which has included work with Guide Dogs and serving as a member of the RNIB’s Members’ Forum. Margaret has also been actively involved in the Playback Talking Magazine in Glasgow. In 2009, Margaret conducted an interview for Playback that featured two other former Royal Blind School pupils, Linda and Stefan Jaur, who are now married!

Margaret was nominated for an OBE by her employer, Barclays, where she has worked for the past 24 years. When asked about her longstanding charity work, Margaret said “working with charitable organisations is something I’ve enjoyed over the years and it’s been great knowing that what we do can make a difference.”
