Exciting new acoustic shooting technology trialed by Scottish War Blinded veterans

Two weeks ago Scottish War Blinded were delighted to welcome Charlie Blow from the National Small-bore Riffle Association to the Linburn Centre, just outside Edinburgh.

Charlie was invited to trial new acoustic air rifle sight available to vision impaired sport-shooters as well as provide Centre Officers from the Hawkhead Centre advice on equipment and training available to set up a similar activity in Paisley.

The acoustic air rifle sight Charlie demonstrated is new to the UK and was developed by EcoAims in Finland. This new sight uses infrared LED to find the target for audible sighting. Benefits of using this sight include its easiness to use for sports-shooters with vision impairment.

Scottish War Blinded veterans Ken Simpson and Bryce Campbell are avid acoustic shooters at the Linburn Centre. Ken explained that using this kind of sight required a much more precise aim.

“It took a bit of practice before I was comfortable but once you’re on it, the results are great. I think this sight is a great step forward”, said Ken.

Charlie too was very impressed by the skill and technique of the two veterans saying:

“My brother-in-law, Keith and I enjoyed our visit to demonstrate the new EcoAims air rifle sight for the visually impaired. I was very impressed by Ken and Bryce who used the sights for the first time. The standard they shot to was exceptional.”

Centre Officers Jodie and Jason from the Hawkhead Centre were certainly very impressed with the technology and appreciated Charlie taking the time to provide advice and pointers for equipment and set up for their own acoustic shooting for veterans using the centre in Paisley.

Charlie summarised his time at the Linburn Centre by saying:

“As this was the first time we had demonstrated the equipment we were very pleased to get such enthusiastic feedback and I hope that this will help lead the new Hawkhead Centre in Paisley so they can start to have a friendly competition with Linburn!”
