Scottish War Blinded members will reconvene their centenary bowling tour at Jessfield Bowling Club on Thursday 23 July 2015 following a month’s break from competition.

Team Scottish War Blinded will field two teams on Thursday looking to record their first victory on tour as well as re-kindle a historic link between the charity and Jessfield Bowling Club.

Scottish War Blinded Centenary TourIt was on the Linburn Bowling Green in Wilkieston, West Lothian where teams from Scottish War Blinded and Jessfield Bowling Club met for an annual match during the 1980’s and 1990’s.

Team Scottish War Blinded will play members from the original Jessfield team who recall a ‘formidable’ and ‘competitive’ team of Scottish War Blinded bowlers at Linburn who won the majority of encounters.

Jessfield Bowling Club is keen to re-establish an annual match and closer links with Scottish War Blinded as well as the wider visually impaired bowler community.

Jessfield Bowling Club Secretary Ricky Lacey said:

“We look forward to hosting Scottish War Blinded's centenary tour match at jessfield Bowling Club. The matches at Linburn were played in fantastic spirit and we hope to re-establish an annual match with Scottish War Blinded”

Scottish War Blinded has selected members from both its Outreach and Linburn Centre services from Midlothian, Dundee, Fife and Glasgow. The team is captained by Ian Graham who is also Match Secretary of the Scottish Association of Blind Bowlers.

Mr Graham said:

“It is an honour and privilege to walk in the footsteps of past Scottish War Blinded members, many of whom talented bowlers who won national competitions. We have enjoyed a very successful tour so far and look forward to our match at Jessfield Bowling Club.”

Scottish War Blinded members will play a combined team of able-sighted and visually impaired bowlers from Jessfield Bowling Club and use a clock system and vocal instruction from ‘Markers’ to assist accuracy.
