Frequently Asked Questions

Can pets and children visit?

Pets and children are welcome. We request that they are supervised during the visit. We cannot accept responsibility for any accidents / incidents that occur within the care home.

Do I have to get up or go to bed at a certain time?

You can choose your own routine and staff will be flexible to accommodate your needs.

Do I need to have my electrical equipment tested before I come in?

All electrical equipment will be tested once you come into one of our care homes and annually thereafter.

Do you have a resuscitation policy?

Our members of staff are not qualified in cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). In the event of any sudden collapse, and where indicated we would call the emergency services.

Do you offer respite care or trial stays?

Due to the high demand on our service we are unable to provide respite care. We do encourage prospective residents to come to our care homes for day visits.

How much does it cost to stay at a Royal Blind care home?

I am planning for the future and am not at the stage where I need to come into a care home. Can I be placed on a waiting list until I am ready to come into a Royal Blind care home?

Many people opt to place their name on the waiting list for the future. There is no commitment to take up the offer of a place if a room becomes available.

I am uncomfortable about being looked after by a carer of the opposite sex, can this be accommodated?

We certainly will try and accommodate this as much as possible, although it cannot be guaranteed. All of our staff approach care in a sensitive manner.

Is there a dental service?

We would recommend that you retain the service of your own dentist if at all possible. If you do not have access to a dentist or are unable to attend the surgery we have access to the domiciliary dental service.

Is there a television and a telephone in my room?

Every room has a large button telephone, and a personal telephone number that can be dialled directly. There is no charge for this service. There is a television point in each room but you would have to bring your own television.
