Braeside House Philosophy of Care

Resident at Braeside having tea with staff memberOur philosophy of care is based on the thoughts and feelings of the residents, the Senses Framework and the Care Inspectorate's Making Every Moment Count resource. The skilled nursing staff at the Braeside House care home strive to create an environment that lives up to this philosophy.

Home and Community

I want to feel that I am at home and have my own space. I want to feel a part of the community. I want to feel that I am with friends.

Staff

I want the staff to be well trained and knowledgeable and supportive of each other. I want staff to be caring and friendly. I want staff to know me as a person and know what I like to do and give me the help I need.

Care

I want to be involved in all my care decisions. If I cannot be involved because I am unwell I want staff to know my wishes and follow them.

Listening

I want to be able to express myself and have the freedom to make my own choices.

Peace and Company

Cushion with text - Live well, laugh often, love muchI want the freedom to wander around the home and meet people. I want to be able to join in activities and have company if I feel like it. If I don’t, I want time to be alone and be at peace with myself.

Safety

I want to feel at home and safe. I want my decisions to be respected and to be allowed to decide on what risks I take. I want to be able to walk around and be able to find my way.

Independence

I want to remain independent for as long as I can be. I want staff to give me the help I need when I need it. I want the time and space to do things for myself even if it takes me a long time.

Companionship

I don’t want to feel alone. I want to make new friends and keep my old friends.

Visiting

I want my family and friends to have the freedom to visit me when they want to. I want them to feel welcome. I want them to continue to be a part of my life and be able to share things with me.
