iSite Summer 2020 - Our response to Coronavirus

Document | 15/07/2020

Welcome to the Summer edition of iSite magazine.

In this edition, we detail our services' response to the Coronavirus pandemic. We share how some of our Royal Blind School pupils have continued learning during the lockdown. Kirin Saeed, who is blind, tells us about how difficult social distancing is for people with visual impairment.

We also have non-COVID news, such as the search for a long lost painting of Royal Blind's founder by Scottish painter Sir Henry Raeburn.  The painting was commissioned because Royal Blind's founder wasn't a fan of Napoleon Bonaparte!

In this edition In November we marked 225 years of supporting blind and partially sighted people with a reception at the Scottish Parliament. To celebrate reaching our 225th anniversary we have produced a booklet, which looks at how our services have evolved along with societal attitudes towards sight loss and disability.

We also launched Our Vision for Equal Education, our campaign to level the playing field in education for children and young people with vision impairment, and in October, staff and residents of Jenny’s Well Care Home celebrated one year since the service opened its doors.
