Royal Blind iSite Magazine Winter 2013Libby Clegg describes how experiences as a Royal Blind School pupil have helped her deal with the demands of being a professional athlete and her delight at becoming a Royal Blind Ambassador. We have visited Forward Vision's music group who use specially adapted musical instruments to express themselves creatively whilst the Elderflowers, from the charity Hearts and Minds, have been visiting residents at Braeside House using a combination of music, comedy and puppetry to reach the person behind degenerative illnesses such as dementia.

iSite Winter 2014The Royal Blind School campuses merged this autumn. This issue features photos capturing the final days at Craigmillar and looking at some of the new facilities at the re-developed school in Morningside. We also pay tribute to the retiring Depute Head Teacher, Sally Mair. In addition, we explore activities which took place for National Braille Week, an MP's visit to Braeside House, and one young person's experience of short breaks at Forward Vision.

In this issue, The Royal Blind School has launched its Learning Hub service to provide training, support, advice and workshops to all those involved in the education of visually impaired children and young people across Scotland. In October, Royal Blind hosted a Braille exhibition at the Scottish Parliament for National Braille Week and former Royal Blind School pupil and paralympic athlete Libby Clegg visited pupils at the newly refurbished school in Morningside.

In our latest edition of iSite our new residence for visually impaired adults, Allermuir, is officially opened, the Royal Blind School is awarded the Exo Schools Green Flag award and we have produced a free history book celebrating 125 years of the Scottish Braille Press.

It’s been a busy few months across the whole of Royal Blind. Pupils at the Royal Blind School were the first in Scotland to try out protype braille Lego bricks which are being made by the Lego Foundation for children who are visually impaired. You can read the full story on pages 2 and 3.
