Pre-school Playgroup

Toddler plays with glowing toy

The Royal Blind School runs a free pre-school playgroup for children aged from birth to five years, along with their parents and carers. Parents and carers are supported to guide their children's learning through play.

Location and times

The playgroup is run during term time on Friday mornings from 9.30-11.30am. It is located at 16 West Savile Road near the Cameron Toll area of Edinburgh.

Qualified staff supporting children through play

Staff at the playgroup are specialists in developing communication and play opportunities specific to the early developmental needs of children with visual impairment. One-to-one sessions with staff are available.

Support for children's visual development is provided through structured observations during play and in the everyday environment.

The playgroup is a key opportunity for parents to meet each other over a cup of tea and discuss matters of mutual interest, whilst staff work with the children at play.

At the end of the morning, everyone comes together for a social circle with a familiar routine of on-body signing, music, and song.

Funding the playgroup

The playgroup is a free service that is funded by donations to Royal Blind. Please make a donation today.
