What We Offer

Education, care and life skills for visually impaired children and young people

pupil studying maths The Royal Blind School is Scotland's only residential school specialising in the care and education of visually impaired children and young people, including those with complex needs and visual impairment. We were founded in 1835.

We educate pupils from the ages of 5-19 and run a pre-school playgroup for blind babies and toddlers once a week.

The school is situated in the Morningside area of Edinburgh. Our campus was fully re-furbished and modernised in Autumn 2015.

We have a high ratio of staff to pupils and employ nurses, habilitation specialists and physiotherapists as well as teaching staff.

The school is run by the charity Royal Blind and is regulated by Education Scotland and the Care Inspectorate.

Pupils attend either on a daily basis or can board in our residential houses during the week if they live further afield. Our residential houses are fully accessible and designed to be a home away from home.

To enquire about admissions, contact Dominic Everett, Depute Head Teacher.
