Our Pupils

Our school caters for pupils with a wide range of disabilities and visual impairments with the use of specialised teaching resources and equipment. We care for some children who are highly dependent and have complex needs, as well as those who are medically frail or have degenerative conditions.

Lolly Heal, Current Pupil

Lolly Heal was born a perfectly healthy baby but, in 2008 at the age of two, a virus attacked her heart. She had treatment and was recovering well when she suffered a stroke and then a major brain injury after her heart stopped during an operation. Lolly's mum says her experience at the Royal Blind School has allowed her true character to shine through.

Harry Lovett, Current Pupil

Harry LovettHarry is a current pupil who came to the Royal Blind School when he was 11 years old. He is autistic and has visual and hearing impairments. Harry is a keen Scout and loves adventures in the outdoors as well as judo and swimming. He excelling at the Royal Blind School, achieving his academic potential and is currently studying seven subjects at Nat 4 and Nat 5.

Jennifer Murray, Former Pupil

Former pupil Jennifer Murray is 22 years old, has cerebral palsy and was born blind due to a premature birth. She also wears a hearing aid. In July 2014 she received a First Class Honors degree in Spanish from the University of West of Scotland and spent her third year teaching English in Spain.

Saad Attieh, Former Pupil

Saad Attieh was just two when his parents had to make the most difficult decision imaginable. Saad had been diagnosed with cancerous tumours in his eyes. But after spending nine happy years at the Royal Blind School between 2003 and 2012 he is now a talented musician and technology entrepeneur studying Computer Science at St Andrews University.

Amanda Roberts, Former Pupil

Former Royal Blind School student, Amanda Roberts, aged 18, writes stories, creates vivid paintings and produces expressive sculptures. Amanda misses a lot about the school, which she attended from the age of three, but she continues to work with Royal Blind as a Kidscene volunteer and stays at Forward Vision once a week.
