Children's artwork welcomed by care homes

What’s the view from your window?

Children are being encouraged to draw what see from their window, and to post or email that artwork to Royal Blind care homes for older people.

“We’d love to share childrens’ artwork with the older people staying in our care,” said Stephanie Kirkwood, Meaningful Activities coordinator at Jenny’s Well care home.

"If posting artwork is too hard, families can email us photos of the artwork, which we'll show to residents on iPads or Tablets.

“Some of our residents are partially sighted, and can see artwork when it’s close up.  Then they can see all the fantastic details children have done.”

"Creative stories and letters would also be happily received, Stephanie said.

“Our older people love to listen to stories.  Our staff read the newspapers to them each day, and many listen to audiobooks, but we’d love to hear some of the children’s creative stories.

“Otherwise, we’d love a letter describing what the view from a child's window is, and what it’s been like staying home from school with families.”

Like Scottish families staying home to prevent COVID-19’s spread, older people in Royal Blinds’ care homes are staying in their rooms to minimise the likelihood of their exposure to COVID-19.

Royal Blind’s Activities staff visting residents in their rooms and tailoring activities for them, keeping them stimulated.  Activities include taking them for walks around the centre on a one-to-one basis, doing quizzes, reading magazines, as well as the odd sing-a-long.

"We'd love to receive some stories or artwork to share too," Stephanie said.

Artwork can be emailed or posted directly to the care homes.
