Rachel Thomas, Outreach Worker, Scottish War Blinded

I have worked for Royal Blind since 2005. I worked on the residential side of the Royal Blind School for eight years before moving on to work at Scottish War Blinded with visually impaired veterans. I provide an Outreach Service, which involves researching and gaining information on their behalf. I give advice and support our members in numerous ways such as:

  • Organising occupational therapy assessments
  • Assisting members financially with requests for items
  • Supporting through a crisis
  • Report writing
  • Liaising with other professionals, such as Rehabilitation and Social workers.

I enjoy the direct contact with members, and making a difference where I can.
