Payroll Giving

Blackboard with writing - You can helpWhat is payroll giving?

Payroll giving is a simple but effective way of donating to charity tax free. Donations are deducted before tax from your salary by your employer.

The charity receives the amount you donate to them as well as the tax you would have paid on the amount.

A donation of £5 per month costs the basic rate tax payer £4.00 - the taxman pays the rest!

The tax relief given on your donation is at your highest rate of tax.

Payroll giving is also applicable to people that receive a work place pension.

How to set up payroll giving

Your employer would need to set up a payroll giving scheme. Employees can donate to any registered charity through it. You can find out more on the HMRC website.
