Ladies tee up £720 for sight loss charity

Press Release | 14/12/2016

Paisley Golf Club got into the spirit of giving as they held a festive fundraiser for a sight loss charity.

Royal Blind is the nominated charity for the ladies' section of the Paisley Golf Course for 2017.

And the relationship got off to a great start at this year's Ladies' Christmas Lunch - with the group raising a fantastic £720.

Thirty-six members and invited guests gave generlously throughout the day - through a raffle, silent auction and jigsaw sale.

A number of prizes were up for grabs in the auction, including four-Balls on six different courses throughout Scotland and for five-star treats at Gleneagles.

Lady captain, Pamela Smith, said: “Sight is so essential in our sport, yet we so often take it for granted. I am delighted that our members have supported the charity so generously today; and I am also extremely thankful to our sponsors – Morrisons and Ivanhoe Premier Store and Post Office – and to all who donated our Silent Auction prizes.”

Pamela (front left) was joined by Davina Shiell, Marketing & Fundraising Manager, Royal Blind (front middle), her Vice Captain, Lynn Forsyth (front right) and committee members Fiona Christie (back left) and Elspeth Smith (back right).

Davina added: “As this is Royal Blind’s first ever service out with Edinburgh, we are extremely grateful to Paisley Golf Club for their generous gesture of welcome to the town.

“This project is unique in that it brings Royal Blind and our sister charity – Scottish War Blinded – together for the first time on one site. Royal Blind is building a nursing home for visually impaired older people, and Scottish War Blinded will provide a neighbouring rehabilitation and activity hub for veterans with sight loss.

“It is due to the kindness and generosity of our supporters that we at Royal Blind are able to expand our services to the West, and to continue making a huge difference to the lives of children and adults living with a visual impairment in Scotland. We look forward to a growing relationship with Paisley Golf Club Ladies’ Section throughout the coming year.”
