Art Students Support Royal Blind School Pupils in Move to Different Campus

Students at Edinburgh College of Art are designing an art project to help Royal Blind School pupils remember their historic Craigmillar Park campus after it closes in Summer 2014 and relocates all pupils to its Canaan Lane campus in Morningside.

The four third year art students have taken elements of sound from the Craigmillar Park campus including footsteps, voices and the sound of the lift to create an art installation that will be presented to the pupils on Friday 8 November.

Paralympian Libby Clegg to take on Ambassador Role for Royal Blind

Paralympic athlete Libby Clegg, who was recently selected to compete in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, has taken on a role as brand ambassador for charity Royal Blind.

23 year old Libby Clegg is a former pupil of the Royal Blind School who took up athletics at the age of 10. At age 16 she won a silver medal in the T12 200m at the 2006 World Championships in the Netherlands. She continued her athletic career by winning a silver medal in Beijing in 2008 and another in London 2012.

An incredible fundraising event is taking place this weekend in Fife’s stunning Lochore Meadows, organised by a team of Fife Council employees in memory of their much-loved colleague Alec Thorburn and in aid of Scottish charity Royal Blind.

 ‘Let’s Walk 500 Miles for Alec’ is a sponsored walk around Lochore Meadows happening this Saturday 21st September, with over 100 attendees taking part to walk a total of 500 miles, and the event’s organisers are looking for more people across Fife to get involved.

The record-breaking magic lesson took place at Royal Blind’s ‘Glow in the Park’ event, a sponsored walk for children at the historic Fettes College in Edinburgh in October 2012, with the dress-up theme of “Magic and Illusion”.

Edinburgh’s Rose Street turned into a musical mayhem last week, as two renowned pipe bands teamed up to march through the infamous pub hub for Royal Blind.

Adding to the renowned Fringe atmosphere, Edinburgh’s Caledonian Brewery Pipe Band joined forces with The Sons of Scotland Pipe Band, which is Canada’s oldest Civilian Pipe Band, to raise funds for our services.

Fringe-goers could hear the recognisable roar of the bagpipes and drums from the 50-strong band, whilst they enjoyed a pint in Rose Street, known for its array of bars.
