Job Summary

Volunteer befrienders play a vital role in Jenny's Well Care Home, spending quality time with our older residents who are all visually impaired. Do you love to chat, reminisce, read and play games with older people? Perhaps you have a love of art, music or sport that you can share with our residents? You could become a member of our activities team and help us them make sure there’s never a dull moment at Jenny's Well!

What does Royal Blind do?

Royal Blind is Scotland's largest vision impairment organisation. We create life changing opportunities for vision impaired children and adults from across Scotland and the rest of the UK. 

What team will you be supporting and what do they do?

Jenny's Well is a care home in Paisley, Renfrewshire. Jenny's Well offers nursing care to older people with vision impairment, including those that may have other medical needs such as dementia. Jenny’s Well is a dynamic team who will welcome and support volunteers to have a positive and rewarding experience.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  1. Befriending of residents and helping provide meaningful activities

  2. Take residents to church services and outside the care service

  3. Meet and greet families

  4. Spend 1:1 time with residents to prevent social isolation

  5. Assist with serving meals to service users

Volunteers should meet the following criteria

Essential

  1. Minimum Age 18+

  2. Experience of meaningful activities/befriender 

  3. A commitment to demonstrating Royal Blind values of being approachable, forward thinking, professional, positive, empowering and sector leading.

Desirable

  1. Experience of guiding the vision impaired

Support for volunteers

  • Structured induction and training

  • Ongoing support and supervision from Volunteer Development Manager

  • Ongoing support and supervision from your volunteer supervisor

  • Access to further training

  • Travel expenses
