Job Summary

Could yours be the friendly face that is the first point of contact for family members, professionals and other visitors at our busy Braeside House Care Home in Edinburgh? Do you have good admin skills and enjoy helping ensure everything keeps running smoothly? We need a volunteer to help with reception and office admin, and if you think you've got what it takes we'd love to hear from you!

What does Royal Blind do?

Royal Blind is Scotland's largest vision impairment organisation. We create life changing opportunities for vision impaired children and adults from across Scotland and the rest of the UK. 

What team will you be supporting and what do they do?

Braeside House is a care home in Edinburgh, Braeside House offers nursing care to older people with vision impairment, including those that may have other medical needs such as dementia. Braeside House is a dynamic team who will welcome and support volunteers to have a positive and rewarding experience.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  1. Front of house support answering phone, directing visitors, interacting with residents who come along to the office.
  2. Ability to use a desktop computer to access information and manage the phone system.

Volunteers should meet the following criteria


  1. Minimum Age 18+
  2. Compassion, patience and understanding with good communication skills.
  3. A commitment to demonstrating Royal Blind and values of being approachable, forward thinking, professional, positive, empowering and sector leading.



  1. Experience of guiding the vision impaired

Support for volunteers

  • Structured induction and training
  • Ongoing support and supervision from Volunteer Development Manager
  • Ongoing support and supervision from your volunteer supervisor
  • Access to further training
  • Travel expenses
