Disability Confident

Royal Blind has been accredited with Disability Confident Employer status in recognition of our commitment to good practice in employing and retaining disabled people.

Disability Confident is a government scheme which has replaced the Disability 'Two Ticks' scheme. It aims to:

  • Challenge attitudes towards disability
  • Increase understanding of disability
  • Remove barriers to disabled people and those with long term health conditions in employment
  • Ensure that disabled people have the opportunities to fulfill their potential and realise their aspirations

Our status as a Disability Confident Employer shows that Royal Blind has successfully completed a self-assessment ensuring that we are taking all of the required core actions. We must also offer at least one activity outlined by the Disability Confident guidelines to ensure we are getting the right people for our business and at least one activity to keep and develop our workforce.

The core actions are as follows: 

  • Actively looking to attract and recruit disabled people 
  • Providing a fully inclusive and accessible recruitment process
  • Offering an interview to disabled people who meet the minimum criteria 
  • Being flexible when assessing people so disabled job applicants have the best opportunity to demonstrate that they can do the job
  • Making reasonable adjustments as required
  • Encouraging our suppliers and partner firms to be Disability Confident 
  • Ensuring employees have sufficient disability equality awareness
  • Providing work experience
  • Providing work trials 
  • Promoting a culture of being Disability Confident
  • Supporting employees to manage their disabilities or health conditions 
  • Ensuring there are no barriers to the development and progression of disabled staff
  • Ensuring managers are aware of how they can support staff who are sick or absent from work
  • Valuing and listening to feedback from disabled staff
  • Reviewing the Disability Confident employer self-assessment

As part of being a Disability Confident Employer, we will display the Disability Confident badge on all recruitment advertisements, application form and other relevant publications.

What does it mean if it is on a job advertisement?

It means that if you have a disability Royal Blind will guarantee to interview you if you meet all the essential criteria for that job, as defined in the person specification. You must ensure that you state on the equal opportunities monitoring form that you have a disability and wish to claim an interview under this scheme.

What does this mean to me as a disabled member of staff?

The fact that Royal Blind has made these commitments means you will have the opportunity to say if you feel that more can be done to develop your career or use your abilities more suitably.

The guaranteed interview promise also applies to internal vacancies, provided you meet the minimum criteria for the job.

If you become disabled, or your level of disability changes, and there are aspects of your present employment that make it difficult for you to carry on the same work, Royal Blind will do all it can to make sure you can stay in your job.
