Scottish War Blinded will host a public open day event titled ‘Creative Vision’ at the Linburn Centre on Saturday 24 October as part of the 2015 Luminate Festival. The Luminate Festival is delivered by Age Scotland and celebrates creativity in later life through a series of workshops, performances and exhibitions organised across Scotland every October.

View the creative talents of Scottish War Blinded members

Scottish War Blinded members will exhibit art throughout the Linburn Centre including portraits, landscapes, models and tactile art. Information cards will describe the inspiration behind the artworks as well as providing insight into the visual impairments our members experience as a result of time in service or in subsequent later life.

Participate in art workshops with our members

Scottish War Blinded member Derek O’Rourke will deliver art lessons to visitors who will be invited to wear simulation specs to develop an appreciation of producing art with a visual impairment. Derek will provide insight into his creative processes as well as instruct in basic painting skills.

Derek O’Rourke said:

“I am really looking forward to the Luminate event at the Linburn Centre. The workshops I will run will demonstrate what can be achieved, no matter how old you are or if you have a visual impairment, and that the sky is the limit in terms of creativity.”

Join Members in the Workshop

Wearing simulation specs, learn how to produce bird tables, bird boxes and rocking horses with instruction from Scottish War Blinded members and Linburn Centre Workshop Instructor James Gregson.

Celebrate a century of expanding the horizons of visually impaired veterans

Scottish War Blinded celebrates a century of expanding the horizons of visually impaired veterans in Scotland in 2015 and will exhibit its centenary exhibition titled ‘Graft, Camaraderie & Community’ at the event. Audio Guides are available upon request.

Meet our members & take the tour

Scottish War Blinded members will provide tours of the Linburn centre throughout the day including our wide range of activity rooms, grounds and sensory garden.
