Visually Impaired Veterans Guests of Honour at Armed Forces Day Ceremony

Scottish War Blinded members from the Lothian and Borders were guests of honour at an Armed Forces Day flag raising ceremony on Monday 23 June 2014.

Members were joined by the Lord Lieutenant, members of 6 Scots Regiment and senior council officials to witness the raising of the offical Armed Forces Day flag at Scottish Borders Council headquarters in Newton St Boswells.

Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for the public to show support and gratitude towards serving personnel and veterans of the Armed Forces through parades, flag raising ceremonies and military displays.

Scottish War Blinded Member Runs Commonwealth Baton Relay

Scottish War Blinded member Steven Waterston ran part of the Commonwealth Baton Relay in Midlothian on Monday 16 June 2014.

Steven was nominated by Scottish War Blinded for overcoming a visual impairment, a series of strokes, Viral Meningitis and subsequent brain surgery to continue participating in amateur athletics as well as inspiring future generations.

Members Participate in Disability History Scotland Pop Up Exhibition

Scottish War Blinded members will be exhibiting art, woodwork and host blind bowling workshops this weekend at Disability History Scotland’s ‘All together Now’ pop-up exhibition at Ocean Terminal, Leith.

The exhibition, from Tuesday 10 to Sunday 15 June 2014, comprises a range of activities, workshops, art and media displays describing attitudinal change towards disability from World War I to present day.

Scottish War Blinded member Derek O’Rourke is currently exhibiting artwork at Edinburgh Castle.

The paintings titled ‘Esplanade’ and ‘Edinburgh Castle from Princess Street’ were completed late in 2013 at Scottish War Blinded’s Linburn Centre.

Members from Dundee and Fife enjoyed a wonderful reunion lunch held at West Park Resort, Dundee last week.

The event welcomed back Scottish War Blinded conference attendees as well as Rosendael social club regulars who enjoyed the opportunity to reflect and catch up after a very busy month.

A new summerhouse and sensory garden was opened on Thursday 22 May 2014 at the Linburn Centre.

Set amidst water features, aroma-therapeutic plants and landscaped gardens, the summerhouse provides members with a tranquil setting for relaxation and recreation during the summer months.
